My wife bought this puzzle for me when we lived in Wales in the 1980's, but I never put it together until 2019. It was a big one, 1500 pieces.
I struggled to complete the puzzle because there were missing pieces and extra pieces. If you click on the top picture you can see the discrepancies. The equipment used to manufacture the puzzle must have been faulty and was apparently retaining pieces in the die as sequential puzzles were cut.
This did not really surprise me because the reputation of British manufacturing at the time was not particular good. There were lots of strikes and labor-union problems. Whatever the reason, my experience with this particular puzzle was frustrating and disappointing.
Because it was a complicated and difficult puzzle, I took some photos of various pieces in a particular spot, using it as a metaphor for a post on Twitter. I utilized one of those photos in my recent Piecing The Puzzle blog post. Seeing that photo this morning reminded me of the corrupt puzzle, ... and then it hit me.
Knowing what I know now about the British Crown and its corruption, it seems this puzzle was itself a predictive metaphor. The Crown, "Great Britain" and the "United Kingdom" are not a country. They are corporations operating for profit and have been raping the people of the world for centuries. They are corrupt, just like the puzzle.
